Creating places that enable people to feel they are gaining a community as well as a home when they move somewhere new is perhaps one of the most important ways in which urban design can help people thrive. Inclusive Design recognizes the essential design characteristics that can nurture community; shared spaces that are inviting, attractive, an absence of real or perceived barriers and comfortable and public space networks that make active transport appealing. Coupled with a recognition of the vision and resources of the client and the imperative to act sustainably this will contribute greatly to ensuring places are liveable now and in the future.
